2024 Program Student Testimonials

This trip is such a great opportunity to go to South Korea and take a survey in many facets of the country. We saw cultural sites, political institutions, and were provided chances to visit universities and academies and inquire about potential graduate school programs and scholarships. If someone is unsure that they would want to go abroad for a full semester to Korea this is a perfect substitute. Although, the trip cemented, for me, that I would like to pursue a full semester there.

I’ve wanted to go to South Korea my whole life, and GWIKS not only made that possible but facilitated experiences I would have never been able to do on my own. Meeting with business and political leaders, learning from tours with English docents, and eating food locals recommend greatly enhanced my experience. This trip is a great balance of structured time together learning about the country and free time to explore on your own. It solidified my decision to continue studying Korean and study abroad here for a semester. It was truly such an unforgettable experience, and I feel grateful to have been able to attend.

One life time experience. From the moment you land at the airport, the feeling of being in a place you’ve probably only seen through a phone is incredible. On the program you’ll have the opportunity to meet individuals with a similar passion as you, so you’re not completely strangers from the start. As you explore different places and food (emphasis on the food) your passion for Korea and its culture grows. Its people and places will make you feel like you are in a second home. For me, what I had studied became a reality when I lived this experience.

Having had the opportunity to participate in the GWIKS 2024 Summer Study Abroad Program was truly rewarding and inspirational. I’m confident that GWIKS now has a special place in my heart. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to go to Korea with the GWIKS Summer Study Abroad Program because it was my first time to go to Korea as a Korean language and literature major. While abroad, I had the opportunity to practice my Korean language skills and actually improve some of my Korean as well. Through this program, I got to meet wonderful and bright students who also share some of the passions I have too. The GWIKS Summer Study Abroad experience also reminded me why I chose to major in Korean in the first place. Since middle school, I’ve been passionate about Korean and after participating in GWIKS’s summer study abroad program it provided a more clear sense of direction of my professional career. For example, going to graduate school after completing my bachelor’s degree, and it also inspired me to consider being a foreign service officer. In addition, because of this summer study abroad program, I now want to apply to the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program. (URF)
